New Diploma Students Connected to Learning: Studywiz 14-19 Launched Exclusively at Handheld Learning Conference 2008

For the first time ever, students aged 14-19 can experience true accessibility to learning with Etech’s Studywiz 14-19 distinctive online learning space. To be launched exclusively at the Handheld Learning Conference in London (13-15 October), Studywiz 14-19 is a specifically tailored online learning environment that enables effective management and delivery of the new Diploma courses in 14-19 partnerships. It uniquely combines a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Mobile Interface, ePortfolio and Attendance Module. Taking 14-19 learning to new levels of accessibility, students on the move between buildings can now always stay connected to class work, school news and collaborate with their peers via chat and discussion forums on their personal mobile devices.

Etech is a global provider of the Studywiz learning platform, a dynamic and safe online learning space. Studywiz is the only Becta approved learning platform with a dedicated mobile learning interface for mobile devices including iPhone, iPod Touch, EeePC and Nokia N800. The newly optimised Studywiz Mobile resources, available as part of Studywiz 14-19, include academic calendars, discussion and chat forums, RSS Feeds, and testing facilities to allow students to continue their learning whilst moving between buildings via their mobile devices.

Research from Handheld Learning states that mobile phones and handheld entertainment devices outsell laptops and desktop computers 4:1, highlighting the value of handheld learning and the relevance of Studywiz Mobile in 21st Century education.

Within StudyWiz 14-19 is the new Studywiz Attendance Module that allows administrators to track students across various learning destinations, promoting multi-environment learning.
Also part of the online learning space is Studywiz ePortfolio, a fully flexible and portable tool which captures a student’s personal progress and achievement. Studywiz ePortfolio enables students to virtually store a variety of rich media materials including digital photos, scanned documents, video and audio clips. This tool is fully interoperable with other VLEs, enabling it to accompany students through a lifetime of learning from school to school, on to university and beyond formal education.

Studywiz 14-19 caters for the needs of administrators, educators, employers, students and parents and allows users access to a broader, more flexible curriculum. A fully customisable solution, Studywiz 14-19 can be adapted to suit the needs to each diploma and also the individual needs and learning style of the student.

Geoff Elwood, CEO and Founder, Etech Group commented: “Using our experience in delivering successful and innovative learning platforms and mobile technology for schools across the UK, we have developed a distinctive solution to enable effective 14-19 partnerships with institutions and industry. Studywiz 14-19 provides an effective way in delivering learning between the workplace and classroom regardless of time, place or delivery device.

The technology is at our fingertips, literally, and in order for it to reach its potential it is important for schools to receive support and guidance when it comes to implementing mobile learning in the classroom. Through well planned change management and an understanding of the significant advantages mobile technology can assist student engagement and interaction. Mobile learning can work hand-in-hand with the direction education is taking helping the learner take control of their education.
