Teachers in the Den PDF Print E-mail

Are you a teacher that has an idea for or is currently practicing an innovative use of mobile or ubiquitous technologies in their teaching?

Would you be willing to enter the “Den” and present your concept or work to a jury panel of pupils, policy makers and a live audience?

First and foremost this is intended to be a fun way of showcasing some of the latest ideas and practice amongst those at the coalface of teaching whilst at the same time getting a view from the young learners to whom it is aimed. However to ensure against purely popularist strategies to keep the younger judges on side there are also members of the jury panel that include employers, policy makers and parents.

The game takes place in London on October 13th as part of the Handheld Learning Conference and is in association with Becta's "Next Generation Learning" initiative. You don't have to be a paying delegate of the conference to take part as the first day of the conference is FREE!

The panel will need to be convinced of the innovative merit of your idea/practice, how it improves learning and whether it is sustainable.

The winner will receive a £1,000 grant from Handheld Learning to assist in the further development of the idea or practice along with mentoring, where relevant, during its development. The winner will also be given the opportunity to present in the main Handheld Learning Conference.

Entries can be in the form of either a page on a social network such as Bebo, Facebook or MySpace, a blog or a web site where there should be at least one video that demonstrates your practice/idea along with a description of why you believe the work is innovative and how you believe it will benefit learners. If you wish, any online material may be password protected but you will need to provide us with log-in details.

The closing date for entries has now been extended to July 31st.  Successful entries will be notified by September 8th.
